Los Angeles Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma has agreed to a three-year, $40M contract extension, including a player option on 2023-2024 season, sources tell ESPN.

NOW he's tradable
[–]Celtics Brad-Stevens 4330
thats a tradable contract if ive ever seen one
Yeah, he's an actual asset now.
long as he doesnt fuck it up this season, they better give him all the touches he wants to pad them stats
[–]Kings StaffordComeback 1846
It’s a great deal for the Lakers. And does give them more options for a trade. But Kuzma is really solid at that price I think they’ll keep him.
[–]Trail Blazers _Quetzalcoatlus_ 856
I think it's a fine deal. He's a 6th/7th man making $13.3M. It's good to have tradeable salary, but it's not like it's a discount.
[–]Lakers NordicLard 393
That’s a silly way to think about it, he’d start on a lot of teams. Getting this amount for a player of Kuzma’s talent and age is very very good.
[–]Raptors QuincyOwusuABuyADM 182
Which teams do you think he’d start on?
Not saying he wouldn’t, just curious which ones you think he would. To me he seems like a great bench player, can keep the scoreboard ticking over when starters rest, but seems to get torched on D.
I definitely don't agree with this guy that he would start on a lot of teams, but I also do kind of think it's a discount based on his likely market. Bad teams have shown they're consistently willing to pay for potential, and Kuzma is a young-ish player who already has a lot of offensive talent. If he isn't the type of player to get a ridiculous contract from a bad team I don't know who is. I would definitely say this is pretty fair for a contract on a contending team though.
He's taking a discount to play with Lebron and AD. Seems like a win win to me.
It isn't about playing with Lebron or AD, it's about playing for LA. If he played for the Magic or Grizzlies his endorsements would be a fraction of what they are now.
[–]Wizards driatic 82
It's perfect for everyone though. Nobody is unhappy about this deal.
Whenever kuz was in talks for being traded, you had to account for his value. Before this contract you could only estimate that amount. If he plays well even better.
[–]Registered to Vote cesga_0218 27
He has a lot of haters but good deal for both sides. Kuz gets paid somehow and Lakers get to keep a versatile and developing wing.

Lakers aren't risking the hornets giving him a dumb contract

[–]Hornets deemerritt 640
Rozier has been great
[–]Warriors uberdosage 505
Its pretty crazy tbh. He was great for you guys but he got a big contract when he was pretty bad the year before he signed with you guys.
[–]Hornets deemerritt 419
Everyone talks about him like he was an albatross but he was fairly efficient last year and his contract is front loaded.
He shot 41% from three and looks great in preseason.
[–]Lakers Seejayayy 177
It'd be dumb to give kuz a big contract because he's only half white and not really a big man. The hornets know the real value is in full white big men only.
[–][POR] Brandon Roy sixseven89 129
This is about what the hornets would give him lol. Rozier got 17 a year, they definitely would give Kuzma 13.
[–]Lakers c32dot 91
Didnt Rozier get 20?
[–]Bullscorvenzo 120
He got 18.9.
But he averaged 18/4/4 on great efficiency last year so I guess it worked out for the Hornets.
[–][MIL] Bill Zopf FKJVMMP 2259
That’s... Perfectly reasonable. Damn.
[–][LAL] Chucky Atkins iPodNan0 1493
kuz is the epitome of a decent basketball player lmao
The only thing he still needs to work on is his decision making, he still does some head scratching things on both ends of the floor.
[–][LAL] Didier Ilunga-Mbenga honditar 372
He loves Kobe shots way too much
[–]Lakers DarkKnightCometh 53
Him deciding to have a 1-on-1 game with MPJ in the middle of the playoffs had me smdh
[–]Lakers noetheb 52
As soon as I start to think he's got it figured out, he immediately bites on a pump fake and then makes a boneheaded pass on the other end. Hopefully his decision making improves.
He just needs to slow down. Watch Lebron and AD with the ball. No wasted movement. Kuzma is a spaz. If he calms down...he will be useful
[–]Hawks Idntknwagoodusername 278
even the RFA market for next year drying up a little bit lol
[–]Rymasq 117
the "amazing off season" everyone kept hyping up for next year already happened after 2019
[–]Lakers BatmanNoPrep 10
Every player is terrified of the lack of revenue. Better to just secure the bag now. Teams don’t need to think that way as there’s no rule that the teams must generate a profit each year. As long as the ownership is well capitalized they’re in position to bargain.
Can we be honest? Every offseason ends up being crazy. All people were saying about 2020 was how boring the fa was going to be and look what happened.
2019 offseason was actually insane though. AD, PG, Kawhi, KD, Kyrie, Butler, Kemba, Klay, Porzingis, D'lo, Boogie and more--completely changed the NBA. 2 teams who didn't even make the previous playoffs faced off in the finals.

[–]Knicks Tankwagon iamslm22 59
It's the rare deal where I think that's the best take. Kuzma locks in 40M guaranteed - but if outperforms (or gets traded somewhere he's miserable) he can opt out and hit the Free Agent Market.
Meanwhile the Lakers get in a position where they can move him if they want for a better fit (a 3+D wing I would guess?)
Kuzma kinda is a 3+D wing already.
Damn I feel like he would’ve gotten at least 60 million in free agency.
[–][LAL] Sasha Vujacic unicornlamp 348
13M a year for Kuz is an incredibly reasonable contract. Surprised he didn't test free agency where I think he would have the opportunity to sign closer to 20M a year but I guess he really loves living in LA. This also makes him a highly tradeable asset going forward. Great deal for both sides.
Kuz is definitely the type of guy who would rather make 13 mil in La than 17 million in Indiana
Yeah well he makes probably 50 mil in endorsements that he can’t in Indiana. A lot of players make more money off endorsements than their salary.
[–]Lakers junzillaa 8
Kuz making bank with this and the PUMA deal + probably other sponsorships solely due to being in LA with the Lakers.
[–][BKN] Vince Carter JeffKaplanIsDaddy 361
